Mmmeat.

Colin and I went to Salumi, epitome of meaty food deliciousness, for lunch today. I had the porchetta sandwich with provolone. It was SO good, although I suspect it might not be the...healthiest sandwich. It's pretty drippy--but dripping with nonfat liquid vitamins! And by "nonfat liquid vitamins," I mean "pork fat." But man, was that some tasty pork fat. (It's also a value-conscious sandwich. Almost 8 hours have elapsed since lunch, and I'm still not hungry. And for me, that's huge.)

So, FG, this is what awaits you if you renounce your vegetarianism! (Maybe you could start with a half sandwich.)

I feel like this link fits into the meat theme of this post: bacon brittle! (If anyone's still looking for a Christmas/Hanukkah gift for me...)

If anybody buys some brittle for you, they should wrap it in this paper.

Also: I hadn't seen this site before but it looks cool.

Salumi was totally awesome - thanks for the suggestion. Now we have to go back and try the gnocchi.

I discovered that Madison Market has 3 different types of nitrite & brine free bacon made from grain-fed, humanely raised pigs. That's a good start, I think!

And thus ends today's bacon update.

Hey, is that the wrapping paper Thuha got Justin? I heard about it but didn't see it...

And I still say the 14 Carrots has the best bacon for brunch.... I've only been there once, but I ordered two servings, it was so good. Not healthy at all, but good...

Hmm... haven't tried 14 Carrots - where is that? I think Beth's has one of the best bacons around as well.

And I think that's the same wrapping paper that Thuha got, although I'm not positive. Definitely very similar.

I don't really remember Beth's bacon (seeing as how it was 3 AM both times I've been there).

And maybe do you mean 13 Coins? It sounds similar to 14 Carrots, and I have heard of 13 Coins...

The 14 Carrots is on Eastlake -- the full name is actually Terry's 14 Carrot Cafe, but that's no fun.

I've only been to the 13 Coins once, with my grandparents. But if they have bacon, I'd be willing to try it!

Beth's bacon is too greasy -- it's perfect for those 3am munchies, but for 11am brunch I want the perfect combo of crunchy-chewy.

wow, y'all are scaring me with all this bacon-laden conversation. There was spiced beef at the curling party I attended this evening - does that count? No, I didn't eat any. I can say, however, that Fridays are the day to get gnocchi at Salumi - Mama makes it by hand in the front window.

Did you say "curling party"? How do I get to go to one of those?

Also - Kate & I went to Salumi on Friday and there was not gnocchi available. The sign said "Gnocchi - Tuesdays only".

I don't like my bacon too crispy. My preference is more for the back bacon type as opposed to the streaky bacon generally seen in the US. Beth's has a nice thick cut of relatively lean bacon and it's not burned to a crisp.

I suppose we'll have to discuss how to cook the bacon for the bacon party.
